Total Package Career & Business Services - Natausha Slaughter

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natausha Slaughter, Owner of Total Package Career & Business Services, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide Career & Business Services to those who are ready for something greater, those who are ready to crush their career & business goals, and those who are ready to position themselves in the marketplace strategically.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started in business because of my desire to make a difference. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a "servant" at heart! I thrive off of being able to serve others that's why I provide services to help people discover their untapped potential. It's such a rewarding feeling. Someone once said, "when you're passionate about doing something, you'll do it for free."

Mark Twain said, "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the fact that I've survived all of the odds that continue to be stacked against me from being a woman, black, a mother, divorced, financially broke, enduring a very debilitating immunocompromised disease called Crohn's, the lack of support from family, a feeling of hopelessness and not mention the countless times I doubted myself and wanted to give up and quit!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is the ability to see the future when all you see are the things that aren't going right, when there's no money coming in, when the results say, "you should just close down." I love what Eleanor Roosevelt and Eileen Caddy said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt, and "When you feel that you have reached the end and that you cannot go one step further when life seems to be drained of all purpose: What a wonderful opportunity to start all over again, to turn over a new page."- Eileen Caddy

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research, Research, Research!!! Do your due diligence. Learn all about the industry you are going into. Know what you're getting into. What's your niche market, and what do you have to offer that is unique and different from others?
  2. Count up the cost! If this is something worth getting into? What do I need to get started? How much will I need to start up and maintain? Do I need additional training, certifications, licenses, etc.? Should I need to hire a business consultant or coach? Can I do this alone, or do I need partners? Use what you have at your disposal first to avoid going into a lot of financial debt.
  3. Slow and steady wins the race! Measure your success by the continual progress and strides made, not by how you stack up against others. Success is found when you run in your own race while staying in your own lane.
