Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natasha Halliday, Founder of Emerging Resilient Counselling and Psychotherapy, located in Whitby, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
In Emerging Resilient Counselling and Psychotherapy, I offer private therapy to individuals ages 14+, speaking and consultation. My clients for therapy are those facing mental health concerns, emotional stress, and life transitions. I speak on and provide consultation for mental health, resilience, overcoming adversity/fear, and burnout.
Tell us about yourself
I have always wanted to work helping others. When I decided on mental health, my primary and sole focus for years was working with you. Over time, I expanded to working with adults as well. I initially worked in hospital and community settings, and over time, I followed a course both set with intention and some surprises that led to my current business.
Simply put, I am motivated by helping others. More specifically, I am happy to be a part of someone's healing journey and offer the insights I have developed through education, work, and life experience to help people move toward the life they want. I am also motivated by the remarkable people I encounter daily in the work I do. I often learn from my clients. I get excited about breaking down information on mental health etc., in ways that my clients can understand, that resonate with their experience, and can be applied to their lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Running my business in itself is my biggest accomplishment. For many years I was adamant I would not venture into self-employment. Additionally, my business represents the core of my values as a practitioner, which is very important to me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The many hats I wear as a self-employed person. Juggling what hat to wear at what time can be a challenge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Learn from those doing something similar who are doing it well.
- Accept that the hard work you do today may not see the results right away, but it is worth doing.
- Don't expect to have everything figured out before you start. You may never start if that's the goal.
