Create Success by Mastering Your Mindset - Myla Saavedra

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Myla Saavedra, a Writer, Funnel Expert, and Mindset Coach, based in Temecula, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm in the online coaching business. I'm a writer, funnel expert, and mindset coach. I help high-achieving female entrepreneurs in three major areas of their business: Mindset, Sales Funnels, and Brand Storytelling.

Tell us about yourself

I'm an immigrant from the Philippines and a survivor of marital abuse. What first got me started in business was the need to reclaim my power, rebuild and live my life on my own terms, and rewrite my story.

Although being a survivor of marital abuse was a huge part of my story (a decade-long, to be exact), I decided that it won't be how my story ends. It's not the legacy I'd like to leave behind for my family and everyone else. I choose to be remembered for how I fought for my freedom and my rights, how I worked on my self-esteem, and learned to love and respect myself again. I choose to exemplify courage and self-love.

What motivates me each day to get up every morning and do what I do is my desire to leave a meaningful imprint in the lives of the people that I'm destined to cross paths with. And I don't believe that the opportunity to impact someone's life only presents itself when something dramatic or tragic happens or only if someone's in desperate need of help. In fact, you could simply be chatting with a friend one ordinary day and end up being the one who encourages her to pursue her passions.

I believe that my calling is to help spread the message around hope, faith, and love, and that's what fuels me every single day. I always remind myself that tomorrow is never promised, so I take every day as an opportunity to fulfill my God-appointed mission here on earth.

When I coach or speak online about Mindset, I put a lot of emphasis on self-love, confidence, and the power of beliefs. When I coach clients on how to build their sales funnels, I help them believe in their ability to offer something of value to the world and their ability to generate revenue for their businesses. When I teach my students about Brand Storytelling, I encourage them to share their message with the people who need to hear it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner is finally launching my podcast "Shift Happens Every Day!"Another is my upcoming book, "The Confident Woman Manifesto," scheduled for release early next year. I count these as a major win because both are solid proofs that you can absolutely overcome any perceived limitation simply by believing in yourself and deciding to take action.

I've always had a fear of public speaking because English is not my first language. I've always been so self-conscious about my accent, and I struggled with conveying and translating my exact thoughts into the English language. So, to be able to host a podcast show of my own (in English!) and to even write an entire book on self-confidence is to show you that you can, in fact, do anything that you set your mind and heart to. That's the power of belief right there!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I'd say your mindset. It literally is everything! It's the difference between giving up and keeping on, between taking someone's feedback as an attack and viewing it as an opportunity to gain some fresh perspective, between waiting for the "perfect time" to launch your offer and just going for it, however "imperfect" the timing may be. Your mindset can either make or break you as a business owner.

To reprogram your mindset is not complicated, but it's one of the hardest things to do because, as human beings, we naturally prefer to lean into what's comfortable, convenient, and easy. We gravitate towards the path of least resistance. We choose instant gratification over long-term gains and the idea of having to wait before we see the reap the benefits.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on WHY you want to start a business. At the heart of entrepreneurship is a sincere desire to help improve people's lives and create a meaningful impact in the world. So, what part of people's lives do you wish to help improve? Or what problem do you wish to help bring a solution to?
  2. Next, get clear on your definition of success: What does success look like to you? Why does it matter to you that you achieve this? And what are you prepared and willing to do to achieve it?
  3. Go back and review your answers to No.1 and No.2 when the going gets tough.
