Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Eidahl, Owner of My Creative Days, located in Cedar Rapids, IA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called My Creative Days. You will find DIY projects, home decor ideas, repurposed makeovers, creative crafts, and frugal shopping tips when you visit my website. The blog has grown in many different ways over the years. I have a monthly membership for flipping furniture. I launched my first course and started a podcast. I am also teaching entrepreneurs how to grow on social media. I have grown a team to help support the mission and business at My Creative Days.

Tell us about yourself

When my husband and I bought our first home, we had to come up with creative ways to make it our own while staying on a small budget. After moving to our second home and making it our own, I started a blog to share what we were doing with family and friends. That quickly grew into much more. Now, after doing our home and after completing a few flip houses, I am passionate about teaching others how to create the home of their dreams without breaking the bank. Through creative thinking, DIY skills, and smart shopping tips I have learned along the way, I have created a formula that will help every reader create a home and life they are proud of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Doing it! Not dreaming about what could happen if I started. Not wishing I could start something. Not hoping a business will grow. ACTUALLY DOING IT! Spending hours working on it and leaning into the beginning and middle stages. Failing over and over again to learn. Actually showing up and doing what I needed to do to make this a business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not having someone telling you what the next, right step is. It is all up to you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. START! Just start.
  2. Do not fear failure. Failure is part of business, and it will teach you so many valuable things about your business.
  3. Get around people who understand and know what you are doing. Get a mentor. Join a group. Join a community in your niche. Learn from someone who has gone before you.
