What's your business, and who are your customers?
Music4Life® (est. 1990) is changing the music creation and consumption culture with products and training. DIY Music Medicine products target consumers struggling with stress, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger, and grief. Music Medicine certification training and continuing education online subscriptions target life/health coaches and human resource, education, athletic, medical and therapy professionals.
Tell us about yourself
When my solo violin music replaced medication in a hospital in 1986, my passion was ignited to share the healing effects of music with the world. Fast forward three decades with music therapy clinical and research experiences converted to virtual platforms, DIY physical products, and digitized formats for mass consumption that transform music listening habits of feeling better NOW.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being recognized for my good works:
- Aflac and ACM awarded me first a time recipient of Lifting Lives Honor (2018).
- Received the first state music therapy license issued in the USA (2011). Received significant grant funding for music therapy services.
- Attracting great staff.
- Sustaining the most significant music therapy caseload in the USA for several years, personally working with more than 11,000 clients in residential addiction treatment centers.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Delegation staying abreast of evolving technology.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have passion for what you do to get you through rough and challenging times.
- Make sure your partners are 100% in alignment with you.
- Be an innovator working from an agreed-upon set of core values.
