Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in art and design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pedro Murteira, Art Director and Designer at MurteiraBakery, LCC., located in Berkeley, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide mostly design solutions for design and motion design studios, film and gaming companies, and tech companies.

Tell us about yourself

I'm self-taught. My educational background comes from film and theater school and a love for painting and the arts. I did a lot of preproduction work, storyboarding, etc., and eventually decided to learn 3d software and am doing what I do today. I love to tackle the creative challenge that each entails.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to raise my two children with my work and the ability to inspire younger designs to achieve higher goals.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You're totally dependent on yourself, which can be overwhelming at times. Self-discipline and maintaining your expectations in order to achieve your goals are key to success, in my view.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Stay humble. Stay hungry. Stay nimble. Always learn new things and stay curious. Don't be an island. Try to stay part of your community.
