Live Flare Free - Mulberry Ridge

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food & beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Rodriguez, Owner of Mulberry Ridge, LLC., located in Portland, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a holistic chef, autoimmune warrior, and backyard farmer. I help fellow autoimmune warriors grow and eat anti-inflammatory comfort food that won't cause autoimmune flare-ups.

Tell us about yourself

I first fell in love with food and cooking when I lived in Italy. At that moment, I knew I wanted to do something in the food industry, but I didn't want to go to culinary school. So I started as a dishwasher in a cooking school and went on to work in restaurants, then started my own catering company.

After many years of running my catering company, I took a full-time position as a private chef to a local celebrity. After two and a half years of doing that and a near-death car accident, I decided it was time to slow down, shift towards serving my community in a more fulfilling way and establish a work environment and schedule that had my health and well-being front and center.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing people take my recipes and make them a part of their healing journey changing lives one bite at a time, using my story to inspire others to use anti-inflammatory comfort food as medicine. Those are my biggest accomplishments to date.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Honestly, this is the first time in my life that I've really stepped into my calling, so I'm really enjoying everything this season of being a business owner, but I do not like doing my own accounting. At all. I will definitely be contracting that out next year! Haha.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your purpose, live your truth and tell your story.
  2. Let your story sell your services. Share how your services can change lives, and focus on doing just that.
  3. At the end of the day, if you're helping people, solving a problem, and leading with transparency and authenticity, you'll succeed!
