Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Myla Poree, Founder and CEO of MRP Coaching and Consulting, located in New Orleans, LA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
MRP Coaching and Consulting (MRP) is a coaching and consulting firm whose focus is to serve as a catalyst for positive social and economic change by advancing the prosperity, empowerment, and growth of women, minorities, and organizations. We provide executive and business coaching as well as work with business owners and organizations to create and strengthen Business Strategies, Operations & Processes, Business Resilience, and Employee & Client Experiences.
Tell us about yourself
After over 14 years in corporate America, I decided I wanted to follow my passion. That passion is helping each individual I work with reach their greatest potential. For over 14 years, I was focused on helping my previous employers create an impact, and I felt it was time for me to create my own impact in this world. What motivates me is helping women and minority-owned businesses access all the resources and tools needed for them to build wealth, increase opportunities, and strengthen the communities they live in.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner so far is creating and launching a women's leadership conference - Commit to Thrive. The conference was held this past summer with a wonderful group of women who have since the conference engaged in new partnerships, acquired new clients, and expanded their network due to the resources and connections made at the conference.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is trying to juggle it all. As a business owner you wear many hats. The most important thing to remember as a business owner is to seek out help. You can have it all, but you can not do it all alone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your intuition. It is ok to seek advice from others from time to time, but you have to trust yourself and make the right decision for yourself and your business.
- Hire your weakness. Work in your zone of genius and hire someone to take care of the things that you are not the best at doing. It will save you a lot of money but, most importantly, time.
- Give yourself grace. Running a business is not easy. Some days may be harder than the next, but there is only one you. Give Yourself Grace.
