Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carlos Ariel Then, Founder of Mr. Then Consulting LLC., located in Providence, RI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Well, that is a great question! People always ask me what I do, so here’s how I can best express that… I’m an Entrepreneur. Mainly I’m a business and finance consultant. This means I help people increase their financial aptitude as well as help them with things like credit, taxes, investing, business development, etc. I’ve also self-published two books that pertain to this field of work. Aside from that, I also own a security company that provides lounges, restaurants, clubs, and VIPs private protection. This is called Knight Life Security. I am also working on developing a tequila brand most recently, which is exciting. This is called Providence Privilege. So I’m doing the “most,” as some of my friends might say. But honestly, I just really appreciate everyone who supports me and my endeavors.
Tell us about yourself
To answer this question, I have to say it all started when I was in middle school, and I would see my mother working on her businesses and being a BOSS. Honestly, it was inspiring. To this day, she is one of my biggest inspirations. She is a problem solver; she gets things done and is a hustler if there are any. In my current business, I get to help a lot of people, specifically people who look like me and are around my age, accomplish amazing things. I’ve helped people get from a 450 credit score to a 770. I’ve helped people start their own businesses, and I get to protect people every day with the security business that I own. It keeps me motivated and happy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner realizes that in all of my discomfort, I’ve been able to achieve success. I always say you can control what you can control. I find solutions, and I try not to dwell too much on my problems. This has allowed me to grow multiple businesses at once. Oh, and also my calendar. It is by far one of my best accomplishments, alongside the other systems I’ve created.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding the time to do everything you need to do and realizing there aren’t enough hours in one day. But of course, that’s why a lot of people aren’t able to scale their business. The key to solving this issue is delegation and, of course, a bunch of mistakes. The problem you see is that people tend to want to do things themselves because no one can do it like them. This, unfortunately, is what’s hard because they are right… but if you can find someone who can do it at least remotely the same, you can train them to do it better.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Top 3 tips!? Ok, I could go on for days about this, but I’ll keep it simple.
- Stop thinking and just do….
- Once you’ve started, stop, ask for opinions, think, and then do again….
- Now that you’ve got something viable, focus on growing this business by creating systems and procedures. Record everything you do and see if you can find a way to have what you do, done by someone else, so you can focus on recreating the system.
