Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leanna Brittis, Co-Founder of Motto, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I created Motto about a year ago. It is a web-based platform that allows people to find & book the best personal trainers in Miami, NYC, the Hamptons & Palm Beach. Motto also is a platform for personal trainers to run their entire business on to make their lives easier as business owners. Our trainers are vetted & offer Strength/HIIT, Boxing, Yoga & Pilates. You can book these trainers for one on one training or private small or large group training.
Our customers are both trainers who need more clients & need a tool to manage their business and people looking for personal trainers for their wellness & fitness goals.
Tell us about yourself
My whole life has been centered around athletics & I was a former D1 athlete. I was inspired to create Motto because I found there was no valuable, trusted resource that existed for people to find trainers. On the flip side, a lot of my personal trainer friends were searching for a way to build their own business and leave their big-box gyms, but they had no tools or guidance to do so. I'm a person who genuinely loves to help others. I find joy & satisfaction in doing so and sharing my ideas & experiences both professionally and personally. It motivates me to be able to make a small impact in someone's life by helping them be more autonomous in both their lives & business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating the product has been my most proud accomplishment. I'm learning every day on the way to making it better and constantly improving & understanding where it needs to go next!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Creating the product, haha. It can be painstaking and difficult to build and manage a robust web-based platform. There are a lot of challenges that arise daily and frustrations when you want something to be better. You have to be patient in testing & methodical.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a support team behind you.
- Do the market research and make sure your business sets you a part in some way, or if there's a similar product/service you offer, you're at least fulfilled in your passion regardless.
- Don't spend unnecessary money/funding too early! Pilot your product/service first!
