What's your business, and who are your customers?
Mosaic Engagement is a facilitation business that helps organizations work better together. We work with businesses, non-profit organizations, government departments, crown corporations, and sports organizations from the local to national level. Our customers are ready to invest in the effectiveness of their team and know that truly functioning toward common goals is the best way to work!
Tell us about yourself
I have always been the person that organizes other people to achieve what they want! Since I was a child, I have used my ability to help people accomplish their goals. When I was young, I didn't know that was what I was doing and didn't have the language for it, but now I do! I am so proud to be a process facilitator. Back then, I joked with my family that "the force is strong in me"... now I am less reliant on Yoda's teachings and more on methods and strategies that prove time and time again that higher functioning teams accomplish more, set bigger goals and are happier along the way. The work I do is different with every client we work with. I love the challenge of meeting the group where they are and challenging them to move further than they thought possible. That is a great feeling!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As I look back over my years in business, I am regularly in awe of how much I've learned. From theories of group management to the actual practice of working with real people in real time. Even more so about the systems I've learned, tested, and perfected, now in place to set us up for the growth and expansion that's on its way. I love to learn and, in turn, share successes, failures, and challenges with those who choose to work with us.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Narrowing down and staying focused! The same practices and activities I work through with my clients are used by our team at Mosaic Engagement as well. The process of decision-making, goal setting, strategic planning, and debriefing are all tools I use to stay the course within our company as well as with clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Done is better than perfect. Take a look at what's on your plate and let go of anything that does not align with your values. Make the cold call, and ask the question.
