Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Yannick Véronneau, a partner at Moreault, located in Mirabel, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We advise CEOs in the merger and acquisition process. Our services include strategy development, prospecting, due diligence management, and deal negotiation. Our clients are small and medium-sized companies wishing to accelerate their growth, mainly in international markets, where we have acquired much experience.

Tell us about yourself

My greatest asset is being able to unite people around a common goal. My success is my clients' success. What motivates me is to find the perfect fit and bring together entrepreneurs who will be stronger. It's a challenging but gratifying job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am very proud of the company's journey. We have extraordinary clients who have tremendous confidence in us. We won the M&A Cross-border Broker of the Year award from the M&A Club, demonstrating our team's relevance in the industry.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Knowing how to say no and staying focused. My interests are varied, and I'm curious, so it's tough for me to turn down a project or say no to a client. However, experience has taught me to focus on what I am best at.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait for all the winning conditions before launching your project. It is better to have an imperfect project that you can improve than not to go ahead.
  2. Find your market niche and stick with it. Entrepreneurs often make the mistake of reaching out to everyone and no one at the same time. Be relevant and focused your expertise will be sharper and more in demand.
  3. Give without expecting to receive. I never refuse to meet with an entrepreneur, even though I know they may never be a client. I like to believe in the good nature of people. And if this meeting allows them to define their project better, I will be delighted.
