Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenny Purdy, founder of Moonglow Mama, located in Clarington, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm Jenny of Moonglow Mama. No title ever feels right for me because I am constantly evolving as a mother and as a woman, and therefore so is my business. What began as an outlet for sharing my vulnerable version of motherhood has evolved into something so much more. My original mission of guiding mothers on the journey of reclaiming our innate wisdom now also includes supporting us in awakening the woman within. Because as I guide you through this work, I'm doing it, too. As you continue to grow through the seasons of motherhood, so do I. We're in the trenches together.
Motherhood was the catalyst that pushed me to the breaking point so that when I finally shattered, I could rise up and stand fully in my power. And now I'm here to show you how to step into yours. I truly believe women and mothers are here to heal the world – and that starts with healing ourselves. My purpose is to work with you to nurture the roots, so you can fully bloom into your motherhood.
To show you how to align with your unique Human Design and to bring that next level of awareness into your parenting. To connect you with like-minded sisters through a circle, so you feel seen and supported by women who get you on a soul level. To hold space for you to step beyond motherhood and into your feminine power.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been a writer (and arguably, an oversharer). When my daughter was a baby, I went through postpartum depression and anxiety and began talking about it through Instagram posts. These initial conversations about real, raw motherhood eventually led to a podcast I co-host with my best friend, cheesecake & crying. Now, I incorporate Human Design, intuitive work, and energy healing into my coaching practice. It's all about motherhood, and it's more than motherhood.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Working with mothers who are tired, overwhelmed, burnt out (so, all of us) and seeing them breathe a sigh of relief that they are not alone. That their thoughts are normal, their emotions are valid, and their struggle is real and beautiful all at once.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I don't believe in work/life balance. It's more of a give and takes, and it can be tricky to find your flow, especially in the early days of parenthood. Mom guilt is real and inevitable – you can't be fully present in both your parenting and your business at the same time. The trick is adjusting expectations and learning to give yourself grace.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Let go of the "how" and any attachment to results. Find your why and stick to it. This will get you through when you want to quit.
- Believe in yourself. If you don't own what you're selling, why would anyone buy it? People say that there are no more unique messages, but as the messenger, you are unique, and that's what will set you apart.
- If you want to quantum leap in your business and have major aha moments, the key is investing in yourself and surrounding yourself with like-minded leaders who have paved the way for you. We are stronger when we rise together!
