What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a boutique yoga studio with my business partner, Brittany. Our customers are anyone looking to discover strength and perhaps flexibility, mentally and physically.
Tell us about yourself
I began practicing yoga after I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36 as a way to rebuild trust in my body. As my journey continued, I realized that there was so much to the practice that could help so many more people live an engaged life. My business has evolved over the years, as has my personal experience with yoga. I am motivated by others and their desire to seek something deeper within themselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Yoga allows us to delve into a deeper experience with ourselves. My greatest gift in my business is being able to offer this in my teacher training programs. What we may uncover in these programs may not be understood or even welcome, but it is always transformational.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of my greatest struggles is finding balance, which ironically is what yoga is all about, ultimately! In addition to owning the studio and leading teacher training programs, I work full-time in pharmaceutical research. My greatest passion, truly though, is being a mother to my two amazing children.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Remember your purpose and why you started.
- For most of us, the business is not about us; it is about our clients.
- Never say never.
