Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natalie Elliott, Founder of Moon Baby Magic, located in Camarillo, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I, Natalie, am a woman, a radical birth keeper, a yoga teacher, and a menstrual cycle/womb educator and mentor. My business, Moon Baby Magic, serves women. It is a space of wild womanhood that values living cyclically, seasonally, and in tune with the female body. I help guide women back into harmony with their wombs no matter where they are in their lives or on their journeys.

For women in their menstruating years, I offer courses and one on one guidance to support them in aligning their life with their menstrual cycle and connecting with their wombs on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

For women in their childbearing time, I support those who plan to birth in power outside of the medical system. I walk with women as they navigate conscious conception, wild pregnancy, autonomous birth, and nourishing postpartum. This can look many different ways but can include prenatal connection meetings, ongoing support, birth attendance (if desired), postpartum support, as well as yoga and sacred ceremony. The most important thing to know is I am passionate about supporting women.

Tell us about yourself

One of my favorite quotes is by Rumi. It says, "the wound is where the light enters you." I find it rings true for most people I've spoken to and those who are truly living and embodying their work in this world. I've always had a passion for women, but I actually went to school for Journalism and thought I was going to be a foreign correspondent reporting on women's rights in other countries. But life had other plans for me! I had a lot of fear surrounding my body, especially around my yoni. I remember googling things like, "Why can't I touch my vagina?" and only getting results that pointed to physical pain. For me, though, I didn't feel pain; I felt nausea and numbness. It wasn't until I had really dug through the trenches of the internet and found a comment on an article that mentioned women store trauma in the womb, and oftentimes numbness is the body trying to protect us. That was a lightbulb moment for me.

From there, I attended my first women's circle, started honoring my period through ritual, connected with my womb in a variety of ways, signed up for doula training, left doula work for radical birth keeping to support women in integrity truly, and began teaching other women how they can learn to love their wombs and live in harmony with their innate feminine cycles too.

What motivates me is that I know this is my soul's purpose. It is clear to me that I am here to bring women together and to remind them of their inherent power. It's beautiful, challenging, and life-changing work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment is really just my ongoing capacity and willingness to adapt and change based on what women need. I am devoted to serving in integrity and will always put serving women in integrity over everything else, even if it means being a little bit uncomfortable at first!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Ah, it can be so challenging. I think the biggest challenge is not falling prey to hierarchal models of business. So many people will tell you to treat prospective customers like victims and let yourself be the hero. Many people, especially those who work with women, believe they are here to "save" women. For me, that was a challenging narrative to release because I was born into this patriarchal society. But it feels so much better, and business is better when I serve with integrity and walk alongside women rather than look down on them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Value integrity and honesty over all else. It will serve you and your business.
  2. Be loud about who you are. Nobody bites with a lukewarm approach.
  3. Create space for rest and play.
