Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jo Peters, Founder of MOMFIT, located in Stow, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help moms-to-be and moms with babies (0 to 24 months) balance their bodies, mind, and emotions so they can win the Marathon of Motherhood. We start learning how to treat their bodies properly, learning what really nourishes them and healing their emotional eating and relationship with food, and losing that baby weight without restrictions, diets, or counting calories, and even more critical, without jeopardizing their breastfeeding journey for the mamas that choose that path. After their own body is healed, strong, and recovered, they are on their way to enjoying their motherhood journey and being able to bond with their babies and family without guilt, regret, or trauma. My mission in life is to make sure every mom in the world has the knowledge, tools, and support to have a magical and amazing pregnancy, birth, and recovery they DESERVE. Reducing their chances of developing postpartum mood disorders like depression, anxiety, and OCD.
Tell us about yourself
After being a coach and trainer for companies like Goodyear, Pepsico, and Mindvalley, I am known now as the mama unicorn coach; after helping over 10,000 people in 4 continents and 25 countries, I found myself facing the overwhelming journey of becoming a "geriatric mom" (Moms over 35 years old) and the paradigms and assumptions that society has around "older moms." So I decided to dedicate my own pregnancy to applying what I learned in over 15 years of coaching teams and research, finding ways to prove wrong society and have a healthy, amazing pregnancy and natural birth without the horrible scenes you see in movies where the mom is screaming out of her lungs in pain.
I became my own experiment and what I found was fascinating: I was able to discover how to gain just the weight I needed during my pregnancy (Which right now only 1/3 of moms achieve), I enjoy full energy in ALL trimesters, I exercise the day I start labor and have the easiest, amazing, trauma and guilt-free natural birth (YES trauma-free labor is POSSIBLE) then the 4th-trimester hit be like a wall of bricks with things I did not anticipate and prepared for like I did for my pregnancy, facing issues with my breastfeeding journey, baby sleep, exhaustion, postpartum depression, and postpartum anxiety. It was the darkest time of my life, and I remember what I did during my pregnancy and birth, so I applied the same strategies and was able to recover and feel myself again, also learning that 90% of what I faced was preventable if I only was prepared and knew about it ahead of time. So I dedicated my life to making sure other mamas will have access to everything I did RIGHT and wonderful during pregnancy and birth and also to avoid my own mistakes during postpartum, so their recovery is easier and smoother than mine was. I woke up every day with the goal and vision to make sure all "geriatric moms" know they can have an amazing experience in motherhood. They have the support and tribe they need to win the marathon of motherhood like they won so many other races in their life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Transforming the lives of over 10,000 people, doubling my income year over year in the last 3 years,
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Learning to delegate and getting over the fear of failing (especially for females).
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make this question: "who can help me with this...." your best friend, so you move out of the pressure of having to do it all and avoid burnout.
- Best mantra I found is" Scrappy is the NEW perfect" just do it and get it out to the world; you can always improve it later.
- Work on YOURSELF and your mindset, hire a coach and hire several coaches (I have 5 coaches myself). They will accelerate your learning curve and make sure you are focused on the parts that make you thrive and help you to accomplish your goals faster and easier!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Every mom can HAVE IT ALL; we just need to learn to know we DONT HAVE TO DO IT ALL! I know I love to work with moms and mompreneurs to help them to achieve their goals and dreams.
