Easy Recipes, Inspired Meal Plans - Moments and Meals

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anna Davidoff, Owner of Moments and Meals, located in Coral Springs, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Moments and Meals is a recipe and meal plan site focusing on providing dinner-time inspiration with weekly dinner meal plans. My goal is to be a resource for anyone stuck in a rut, not knowing what to cook or, heaven forbid, making the same rotation of meals over and over again. I hope to encourage my readers to try new foods, have less stress around dinner time, and thereby enjoy the little moments created around the table with their families. Though my content likely resonates more with parents, it can really be for anyone looking for great recipe ideas!

Tell us about yourself

I have a background in business management and have always wanted to work for myself. I love to analyze and talk about business strategy, but I'm also very creative. I started Moments and Meals because I love to cook and love sharing new foods and recipes I've tried - it's probably 50% of the content of my family group chat.

When food blogs gained popularity around 2010-ish, my husband actually gifted me a domain name on my birthday and told me I should start one too. Unfortunately, fear held me back, and I did nothing with it. Fast forward to 2020, and a series of events led me to quit my managerial job of 11 years, be home with my kids for a bit, and eventually focus on starting my own business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly? Getting started. Though I purchased my domain and set up my site 3.5 years ago, I didn't actively start working on it until the beginning of 2022. Anxiety and maladaptive perfectionism held me back, and I've been slowly learning to let go and be ok with not knowing everything and not having everything be perfect before "hitting publish."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

How do I pick just one?! Ha! Staying focused and on task is especially hard for me. There's always so much to do and so much to learn that it's easy to get distracted and basically avoid the tasks I don't want to do. When you don't have someone holding you accountable, it can be easy to veer off course.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started and figure it out along the way. Don't wait for the perfect time or until you've learned x, y, or z. I heard a great saying recently, "with action comes clarity."
  2. Know your "Why." Have a clear vision of the bigger picture and the overarching goal(s) you hope to achieve by having this business. What is going to drive you to keep going during the hard times? Because I guarantee there will be hard times, and you're going to ask yourself if this is still worth it.
  3. Join 2 or 3 groups/masterminds where you can learn from others and network. Bonus point if one of them is in a different but related field. For example, one of my most beneficial groups is for website owners/bloggers, but the niches are varied, not just in the food space. I'm constantly gaining information, perspectives, and opportunities from the groups I actively participate in.
