Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in content creation but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paul Jew, owner of Moji Cinema, located in Albuquerque, NM, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Moji Cinema is a video production and video strategy company that serves businesses and non-profit organizations. We take a data-driven approach to our services so that our clients can enjoy a measurable return on investment.

Tell us about yourself

I spent most of my career as a photography studio owner serving the school photography yearbook market. In 2014 I created a video division for my company after attending a workshop on micro-budget filmmaking. I am passionate about creating high-impact videos for my clients that deliver results for them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In 2018, we created an initiative to tell the stories of our city's most iconic businesses. Those stories have been used by those businesses to onboard new employees, increase the "know, like and trust" factors to prospective clients and inspire aspiring entrepreneurs.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The buck stops with you. If you want to make your business succeed, you have to be willing to pay your dues to overcome bigger setbacks than you can imagine.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know who your ideal client is in as much detail as possible -- their hopes, dreams, aspirations, as well as their pains, worries, and anxieties. Knowing them in depth will enable you to know how to communicate with them and how to serve them in a way that is superior to your competitors.
  2. Invest in your own personal development by getting a good business coach who will challenge you to improve your leadership skills, management skills, and mindset.
  3. Be vigilant with your cash flow. If you run out of cash, you have to close your doors. Be diligent in bringing revenue and diligent in not spending money on things you don't need.
