Just a Practice Away From Your Freedom - Mockingbird Adaptive

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abigail Julia, Founder of Mockingbird Adaptive, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My mission is to support others in living a life of freedom and fulfillment by having more energy, transforming old ways of being, and loving themselves more.

The tools I offer include Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, Reiki energy healing, sound healing, and other self-care rituals. FLY Mockingbird is my virtual Kundalini Yoga Membership, which includes an on-demand library and Livestream classes. I also offer private 1:1 mentorship for those looking to deepen their personal development: Spaceholders To Last is designed to help empaths and those who hold space for others (teachers, therapists, healers, etc.) to practice energy hygiene, replenishment, and self-care practices to be able to continue to offer their gifts for the duration. Burnout is a very real concern for most people in these lines of work. I draw from my own personal experience and the tools that have helped me recover and sustain.

Awakened Humanity is designed for those wishing to feel calmer, more clarity, and joy by weaving spiritual, yogic, and self-lovingkindness tools into day-to-day life. Instead of living every day like Groundhog's Day, each day can feel like Dorothy stepping into Oz when practicing the meditations, rituals, and other tools I offer in this mentorship.

My clients are yogis and yoga-curious therapists, (yoga) teachers, healers, caregivers, mystics, empaths, creatives, and anyone wanting to have a deeper experience of day-to-day fulfillment.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in clinical social work. I practiced for ten years before experiencing burnout and taking time away from holding space for others. I found tremendous healing and transformation through my personal experiences with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, reiki, sound healing treatments, and working with crystals. So much changed on the inside and (therefore, outside!), and I knew I needed to share this with others. So, I trained in these modalities to change my professional approach and now offer weekly classes, workshops, and mentorships. It is such a joy to offer these potent tools to others looking for a different way to navigate each day and to take care of them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Whenever a client or a student experiences a shift in the way they're feeling, I consider that a big accomplishment. Whether they've had a busy day and have found some stress relief or they're starting to really show more self-compassion as they're learning a new skill, to me, that is everything and why I do what I do. These small moments are actually big moments because we know transformation is happening.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a solopreneur, I'm wearing a lot of hats. From marketing, content creation, customer service, and delivery of the services- it can oftentimes feel like a lot. It's important to prioritize what's most important and find strategies that work with your natural rhythms. For example, I know I'm most creative in the mornings and at the beginning of the week. So, I block unstructured time to be able to.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's all about the long game. Know that it all takes time, not overnight, as social media would have you believe. Keep connected to your why and you'll be able to stay the course.
  2. Be willing to pivot. Don't grip your plan so tightly that you miss the opportunity to change directions or tactics. As long as you are moving in the direction of your aim, it's all good!
  3. Be willing to fail and keep failing your way upward. You'll find success with this practice of humility and non-attachment. Also, entrepreneurship is "shadow work," meaning all of your "stuff" will come up. Be willing to do the "inner work" and keep going anyway. You will grow and evolve. It's beautiful, and it's so worth it!
