What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am bringing to the world a coaching business that supports women who feel overwhelmed, stuck, and feel like there is more to life than what they're living. I offer 1:1 coaching in a 6-month container. My coaching is tailored for clients. The container is built on the pillars of bringing focus to the client’s goals, transformational work, energy management, and skills development. The clients also receive resources that support relaxation, self-exploration, and tuning into the body to gaining in inner awareness and strengthen intuition.

Tell us about yourself

I started work in the legal field in 1999. I started as a legal assistant working in personal injury. This area of law was about supporting people who were injured or disabled and seeking benefits/compensation. I grew in this role, and for the last 13 years of my career, I worked in a boutique personal injury law firm as a Paralegal and eventually assisted in the management of the firm. Personally, I had taken up running and started running 10km races. I was an avid yogini enjoying hot power yoga and pushing myself to my limits. At that moment, I felt my life was amazing, and I was doing exactly what I was meant to be doing. I was challenged every day.

I was helping people, and I was growing. What I did not see at the moment was that I was disconnected and had not integrated stressors or past traumas. Eventually, it all got caught up to me, and in 2010 I began to feel off, then I began to experience swelling in my hands and knees. There was pain in my hips and shoulders. I was fatigued and emotional and could not seem to get it “together” which created judgment. On March 1, 2011, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I felt my life was over. Coming back to recovery was a road combined with conventional medicine and holistic explorations.

Every person’s path will be their own, and for me, I resisted and refused to surrender. I continued to fight and push myself to the brink, which only increased the inflammation and dis-ease in my body, mind, and soul. Finally, I let go and surrendered, realizing resistance was futile. Then it all changed. I slowed it all down and dropped out of my mind and into my body and was guided by its internal wisdom. As I reconnected with myself, I began to make choices that supported my greatest and highest good.

My business came to fruition when I was living in a flow state and open to opportunities that arose. I had been teaching yoga and training yoga teachers for a couple of years in intimate settings. Moving through teacher training and building connections with people, and guiding the students through their own self-discovery, a passion was ignited within me that I knew I was being called to follow. Then the pandemic occurred, and space opened up for me to explore training in coaching. The deeper I went with coaching, the more I knew I had found my path.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is stepping into my true self. Letting go of the shoulds and moving from a place of comparison. Coming to the realization that I what have to offer is exactly what the world needs, and I want to stay true to myself and those I'm here to serve.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I'm not sure I would use the word hardest, but I would definitely say as a business owner, my challenge is to maintain my mindset and continue to do my own work. My confidence can waver, and this is where my work is so important. Doing my own work helps me continue to stay connected to my true self and follow my soul’s purpose.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips would be to ensure you always take time for yourself and find the balance between the feminine and masculine energies. When we work in flow, we are productive and creative and take aligned action.

The second tip is to create your vision. Fine-tune what you want in your life and your business. Check that it is aligned with your purpose and passion.

The third tip is to be true to yourself. Always slow down and notice if you're comparing yourself to others. When we fall into comparison, it takes us off track. It's important to have support as you navigate the challenges of running a business, both internal and external challenges. Remember, you're not alone in this; reach out.
