What's your business, and who are your customers?
Minkin is a world-class global management consultant specializing in future trend analysis, strategic, market, and human resource planning, organization design, and acquisitions and mergers. He is a popular professional speaker with a wide global audience. What is an accurate real-world prediction about the future worth to your business? Barry Minkin is considered at the top of management consultants and has the world’s best record of accurate predictions in writing over the past five decades. Indeed, one economic newsletter proclaimed, “Minkin is a candidate for guru of the decade” It makes sense proof that you know what you are talking about is a record of accurate predictions.
Tell us about yourself
After spending ten years as a global management consultant with Stanford Research Institute (SRI), I went out on my own. I was hired by SRI because of my broad real-world understanding of most business sectors and how unique each company is. I am proud to be the first one to predict recessions in the 1990s and in 2008. My book Econoquake (one of my eight published books) was a best-seller, and I debated the global economic direction with Robert Bartley, the Editor of the Wall Street Journal on Larry King Live, and was the keynote speaker at the System Wide Meeting of the Federal Reserve Bank.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a single entrepreneur doing all the projects, I found it difficult to market for the next project. Not knowing when and where the next assignment was coming from made it difficult to have enough money reserves to plan to build an organization.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get a partner as soon as it is feasible.
- Is your business a pain or vitamin pill? A pain pill business is one where people must have what you are selling no matter the economy, while a vitamin pill company is one you like the product but may not buy in a down market.
- Know we will be in a contracting market for at least five years.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Hiring the right people is essential so hire only on merit. Look into government markets; unfortunately, they grow even as the economy declines.
