Education for All - Mindful Dog Mom
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alexa Rabini, Founder of Mindful Dog Mom, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Before I was 'the pug mom,' my family's dog was misdiagnosed by a conventional veterinarian. For six months, I watched her suffer before she died on the operating table. This changed my entire life! Frances taught me that if we can be proactive and mindful of our pet's health, we can possibly avoid a health crisis! I didn't want to make that mistake when I adopted my pugs, so I became their health & wellness advocate, learning to speak up and exercise my knowledge and experience. After adopting Dixon, I struggled with his special needs after multiple vets failed him, so I became a certified integrative animal caregiver specializing in holistic (at home) medicine. I founded Mindful Dog Mom as a community to unite pet parents with professionals in the spirit of making pet lives better!
Tell us about yourself
Surprisingly by night, I'm an entertainment director for a live music venue, but by day I'm fighting to keep dogs living forever as a content creator! After seeing multiple dogs suffer in the hands of Rover.com and Wag Walkers, I started this mission to make pet lives better to not only keep my community safe but share my story because even if it helps one dog, mom, or dad, that's all that matters.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
When I'm approached at an event, and someone says, "I found this event - because of you," or one of the professionals on my directory texts me, "I just got a new client - because of you," that because truly means I am doing my job correctly and it feels so good to know that I am making pet lives better through public education, community support, and professional referral.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As an introvert, I hate to talk on the phone! I much prefer to talk to someone in person and see their expressions and body language. However, a Discovery Call comes in handy to ensure you are truly the right fit as a service provider for the client in front of you and some people are old school; they just want to hear your voice instead of seeing those three dots or hearing the inbox sound.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Word of mouth is free advertising, and the best way to get it is by networking. Dedicate the time to connect with others because who you know matters.
- Continue your education annually; when you dedicate the time to do better, you'll instantly see the return.
- Every brand needs a face. Why? Because people love the person behind the brand, NOT the brand itself. Stop hiding and put yourself out there.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Do what you love because it's 100% true that the money will follow.
