A Happy Brain is a Productive Brain - Mindful Action Panda

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with William Song, Founder of Mindful Action Panda, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help busy professionals and business owners to be more productive by focusing on happiness. As a productivity consultant, I do this by combining neuroscience with select productivity systems. When you focus on making your brain happy, you will become more productive. I realize that may sound strange to start with making the brain happy. But it makes sense if you consider that our brain determines our productivity. Then it makes sense to keep your brain happy if you wish to be more productive.

Tell us about yourself

My former dream was to be a hedge fund manager. I was working in equity research at an investment bank, and I decided to quit my job so I could study to get into business school. As I was studying for the GMAT (an exam to get into business schools), something felt off. I decided to explore other career options. By accident, I became a hypnotherapist, but that's a whole other story. Anyhow, I found that many clients became more productive as a byproduct of our hypnosis work. After many years of helping clients with productivity, I decided I'd create a second company focused exclusively on productivity. And in 2022, I created Mindful Action Panda.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love seeing my clients succeed. It's very satisfying to see them do well.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Since this second business started in 2022, there have been many decisions that need to be made. And I'm the one making every decision. And I'm doing most of the tasks, so I'm in all the roles. It's temporary, though. I look forward to hiring more help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Talk to people who can help you. My business coaches have asked good questions and shared good advice. It's easier to do well with support.
  2. Many people pivot after starting their business. Make the best decision you can while being open to pivoting later if needed. Don't look for the perfect decision, as the cost may be too high in terms of time and opportunity cost.
  3. Remember to enjoy your journey. Design each day to have at least one task you enjoy or find satisfying. A happy brain is a productive brain.
