Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mimi Langley, a Clubhouse Moderator and Coach based in Wilmington, NC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Clubhouse Moderator, Coach & Mentor. Clubhouse is a social audio app where people from all over the world talk to each other and learn from each other. Specifically, I teach women in business how to host rooms on the app to gain more visibility, make more sales, and grow their email lists!
Tell us about yourself
I love cheering women on! My mission in life is to inspire women to do their thing, whatever that thing may be. Don't let anything or anyone stop you. If you have an idea, go for it!
I joined Clubhouse in the middle of the pandemic. I was a new mom and felt completely alone. Clubhouse was my saving grace for human connection. Little did I know that it could or would turn into a business for me. I show up every week on the app, teaching women how to moderate. I answer their questions and continue to create extended resources to help them on their moderating journeys.
The two main reasons why I keep showing up in my business and keep doing what I do every day are (one) because I absolutely love it! I have so much fun teaching and brainstorming, and (two) these women feel encouraged, and that fuels me even more!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been being able to be recognized as a leader in hosting rooms in the social audio space and being able to witness so many women show up for themselves on Clubhouse; that's an added bonus.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner has to be when self-doubt takes over. It's all a mind game. You'll have days when you feel on top of the world. Your ideas are amazing. The money is flowing in. People are excited about you and your products, and then, there are those days when things slow down a little bit, and that self-doubt starts creeping in. You have to push through! You have to keep showing up.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- My first top tip would be to actually start. We spend so much time thinking and trying to perfect everything on paper and in our minds that we delay taking those necessary action steps. Start because in just by starting something, that's where you learn a lot!
- My second top tip would be to keep it simple. You don't have to do all of the things and pay for all of the things all at once. You don't have to pay a ton of money to organize your business leads, and you don't have to automate everything right off the bat. Find what works for you. Explore. Try different methods and different systems.
- My third top tip would be to find an outlet where you will consistently show up to get visibility on your brand. That outlet can be a certain social media platform, a blog, a podcast, YouTube, etc. Choose something that you will enjoy showing up for. If you enjoy showing up for it, you'll more than likely stick with it.
