Natural Results Without Any Side Effects - Micro Art Makeup
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tanya York, founder and CEO of Micro Art Makeup, located in Beverly Hills, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
MicroArt is Semi-Permanent Makeup that looks more natural than makeup, can safely last for years on the skin, and eliminate all of the side effects of other forms of permanent makeup. MicroArt utilizes cutting-edge equipment, custom blended mineral-based pigments, and a system designed to ensure natural results that even men love, especially for scalp camouflage to hide thinning hair. My proprietary technology is ideal for eyebrows, lip blushing, and scar/scalp camouflage.
Tell us about yourself
As an entrepreneur, it was time for me to reinvent myself after a long and successful career in the entertainment industry. The idea for MicroArt started with me having issues with my eyebrow makeup smudging all the time and my early experience in special-effects makeup. I invested a sum of money into perfecting our team of electronic engineers and cosmetic biochemists worldwide, developing a signature technique, and launching MicroArt Semi-Permanent Makeup in Beverly Hills in 2009.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I love that MicroArt is now enjoyed by thousands of people who fly in from around the world to get their procedure. It can make such a positive difference in people's lives. Our clients are celebrities, athletes, homemakers, retired seniors, cancer survivors, and professionals with busy and active lifestyles. Each day is an exciting story.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Of late, the biggest hurdle is finding good people to work with. It's hard to believe that with unemployment rates, etc., you would think offering a great job with benefits and opportunities would be enough.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find yourself a good mentor that can make all the difference.
- You must believe in yourself. I think any woman can be a successful entrepreneur and become a founder of their brand.
- Have the will, commitment, and perseverance to create a business and work hard at it, and you can achieve anything.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Entrepreneurial education for young adults, especially women, will help build the foundation for future founders. Programs that make finding business mentorship easy to access for the mentor to volunteer their time and a place where young women can find them.
