Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Stackable, Founder of Muscleman Moving & Piano Experts, located in Austin, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a full-service moving company and a one-stop shop for all your relocation needs. We offer packing, storage, and turn key moving services. We specialize in pianos and other items that most movers won't touch. Our goal is to lift the burden of relocation. Our customers understand the value of experience and quality. We can help anybody looking to relocate in almost all situations.
Tell us about yourself
I picked up a couple of side gigs with a friend of mine and quickly realized that moving was great because I was physically capable and enjoyed the hard labor. It was a perfect match because I really liked going above and beyond with customers and customer service as I strive to impress my clients and exceed their expectations. I always had an entrepreneurial side growing up, so I just took the ball and ran with it. I believe in constant improvement and that growth is a journey, not a destination.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to provide opportunities for others. It's powerful to see the positive changes in people's lives when given opportunities. When creating this business, I got creative and didn't use the typical structure of the moving industry. This was by accident because I had no real experience when I first started and had never worked for a real moving company. I put more responsibility on the mover's side and, in return, attracted higher-quality individuals. This created an environment where movers could thrive and have more opportunities than the industry standard.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Once you have a child, you're always a parent. Once you have a business, you're always a business owner. You're never fully off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take action! Learn and apply simultaneously. I think this quote says it best. "Knowledge is only information. Wisdom is translating that knowledge to application "- Krino.
- You don't have to know everything; you'll figure it out as you go. When studying, take what you just learned and start applying it until you have an understanding through application.
- View things through all lenses. It's important to be able to understand different perspectives of the customers you serve and the businesses you work with. It gives you a tremendous advantage when you fully understand others' outlooks and views.
- Start with yourself! Instead of focusing on your product or service and exactly what you're going to do next, just become the type of person that is disciplined and successful. Add value to your customers and the people you work with for the money and successful follow.
