What's your business, and who are your customers?

Careercloud is a media platform that serves professionals to build the career of their dreams. I run a podcast and newsletter called The Break, and I coach people through career pivots.

Tell us about yourself

In 2018 work wasn't working for me. I was stuck in a corporate job that I hated, so I broke work and started designing the life I wanted to live. I started a side hustle, incubated it for 12 months, and left corporate behind. Now I get to interview amazing people who have the courage to break work and live lives on their own terms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

That I set a goal to one day work for myself, and I met that goal.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being accountable for everything that happens. There is nowhere to hide.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't quit your job. This takes time and money. A job solves both.
  2. Experiment. The future is unknowable. You have to act and update your path with feedback.
  3. Choose yourself today. You are ready, and even if you're not, give yourself enough credit to learn along the way.
