Reclaim Your Fit Now - MFit

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Molly McNamee, Founder of MFit, located in North Hollywood, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an online fitness coach. I have an online workout platform called MFit Workouts that I run myself. My goal as a trainer is to help busy people make time for themselves with sustainable workout programs. I help people break free from that yo-yo cycle that so many find themselves stuck in. Most of my clients are busy, stressed out, unmotivated, not making time for their health, prioritizing work and family over their well-being, and don't feel comfortable in their bodies.

Tell us about yourself

Well, I've been a fitness coach for ten years. Before that, I was a professional dancer. And I did gymnastics growing up. I love sports and grew up playing them with my older brothers. So, the movement has always been in my life. Through that, I've had lots of body image issues, my weight has gone up and down, I've had injuries, and I have struggled with consistency. That constant yo-yoing was hard on me. I have found a balance now, and I'm so much happier.

I don't want anyone to go through what I went through, which is why I help people find balance with safe and effective home workouts! I help people find consistency and feel confident and strong in their bodies. And each time I see a client transformation, I know what I'm doing is making a difference.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my clients' physical and mental transformations. I work with a lot of people who have had unhealthy relationships with their bodies. People who only thought of exercise as punishment. Now those people love to exercise, love their bodies, are more energized, and feel confident. Seeing those transformations is the best part of my job.

My mom's transformation is the one I am most proud of. Growing up, she did all the fad diets. She tried trendy exercise things. Nothing really worked. Her weight went up and down a lot. And that upset her. But now, she has lost a bunch of weight and kept it off for years with my MFit programs. She'll always be my favorite client.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a one-woman business is not easy. I have to take on every task. I am not only the trainer but the accountant, marketing expert, web designer, sales team, and everything else all rolled into one. It is challenging. But I've also learned a lot. And I'm glad that I know how to take care of every aspect of my business because when I am in a place to hire help, I will know exactly what I need because I've done it all already. It's hard work; it's lonely at times. But it is worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Done is better than perfect. This is something I have to constantly remind myself of because I am a perfectionist. But, if you are starting a business, then you need to get your message out there in any way possible. Your website does not need to be done or good for you to start. Your social media posts don't have to be perfect. You don't need fancy photos. You don't need pretty branding. Eventually, you can get those things. But as you get started, just get your message out there regardless of how "perfect" it sounds.
  2. Practice telling people what you do every day. The more you practice your "elevator pitch," the better you'll get at it and the clear you'll get on your message.
  3. Trust your gut. This is another thing I have to constantly remind myself of too. If something doesn't feel good to you in your business, don't force it. If something excites you, lean into it. You are going to have to give a lot of time and energy to this business. If you start forcing yourself to do things you hate, you'll burn out so quickly.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you are currently struggling to make time for yourself and feel like you don't have control over your body, I would love to help you! I know how hard it is to make time for yourself, especially if you are an entrepreneur. But you have to!

You have to take care of yourself because if you aren't feeling 100%, you won't be able to give 100% to your job and your family. When you have a balanced health routine, you are more productive and focused.
