What's your business, and who are your customers?
Metal Galaxy is an award-winning hobby gaming store. We buy/sell/trade collectible card games and miniatures, including Magic the Gathering, Yugioh, and Pokemon. We also stock popular board games and gaming supplies. We are an award-winning store! A great place for families, friends, and on date night! Over 350 board games, more than half a million cards, miniatures, and so much more! (Please note that we are still not open for in-store events due to COVID restrictions)
Tell us about yourself
Sometimes life takes you where you're supposed to be. I started 20 years ago at a flea market. I was introduced to this business by a friend and started my own like a booth which has since grown into a career in gaming! I love working in an industry I am passionate about while providing a safe and inclusive environment that nurtures social interaction. Have we ever missed that these last couple of years!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having a reputation as a friendly, honest, and fair business owner is my biggest accomplishment. I've seen many businesses like mine come and go over the last 20 years, so having a consistent and positive image is a reflection of the integrity and business ethics I've lived by.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding motivation when things don't go your way and learning to be creative and disciplined to overcome those challenges. The pandemic has been the ultimate challenge. I'm very proud and grateful that Metal Galaxy has strived during these difficult two years.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Write a detailed business plan.
- Much like a marriage, make vows with yourself to persevere when times get tough, which they will.
- Ensure you have fun and give yourself credit for taking a (calculated) risk that most people are not willing even to consider! :)
