Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Rosen, Founder of Met By Nick, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a professional matchmaker who operates my own matchmaking company called Met By Nick. My company services singles throughout the US by supporting them in their journey to find a future compatible partner. One of the main core values of my company is inclusiveness.

The value of inclusiveness is why Met By Nick works with clients of varying age ranges, gender identities, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and sexual orientations. Basically, all are welcome, and we pride ourselves on empathy, kindness, and curiosity. Additionally, my clients have common traits of being talented, career-driven, and passionate about life!

Tell us about yourself

I started Met By Nick with the foundation of over nine years of experience in the health and wellness, personal coaching, and clinical research space. My goal is to ensure my clients have a fulfilling and rewarding experience through the process of finding their perfect match. This process is ensured by a dedicated and curated matchmaking service that provides tremendous value at a fair and affordable rate.

Relationships and the process of dating are so impactful on the future of someone's life. The positive impact I can have on my client's future well-being and outlook on life by matching them with a supportive partner fuels me and gives me a sense of purpose in my work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I never imagined myself being an entrepreneur. After previously working for a large award-winning matchmaking agency and getting exposure to the matchmaking space, I decided to start my own company because I saw a need in the industry that was not being fulfilled.

That being said, I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is that I unintentionally founded a business that gives me immense fulfillment and gratification.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Burnout! The American Psychological Association (APA) has placed burnout from work as one of the 14 major trends of 2022 in mental health. The rate of depression and chronic anxiety (along with other mental health concerns) amongst entrepreneurs is an ever-rising percentage. By becoming an entrepreneur, I had my first exposure to complete burnout, and for me, the beautiful part of our current medical economy is the movement to make therapy more accessible via telehealth.

Meeting regularly with a therapist to help me manage my work-life balance, along with establishing healthy communication in regard to how I engage with my clients, has made me a functional and optimistic business owner. Shoutout to Alma for helping match me with my amazing therapist! The best telehealth mental healthcare company out there.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take Action: When you have a business concept that you believe in, you must understand that planning every nuance of the business in the beginning phase can lead to procrastinating your pursuit. Taking action, whether it is setting up your social media pages, enhancing your LinkedIn page, acquiring an LLC for your company, or finding a domain and website hosting platform, etc., are all single tasks that you can focus on doing that will lead you to have a functional company. Once you have a functional company, then the strategy, financial planning, and such can be addressed.
  2. Personal Maintenance: Being an entrepreneur and owning your own company is a journey that is trying. Your physical and mental well-being matter for you to remain consistent in the devotion and care you put into your company.
  3. Be Authentic: Imposter syndrome and self-doubt are rampant feelings for many entrepreneurs. Many times, these self-conscious feelings come from a thought process that your customers will somehow ridicule or judge you negatively if you are not "perfect." The customers you work with are human too, lol, and experience the same self-doubt feelings you may have. That is why most customers are impressed by a business owner that is honest and ok with being vulnerable.
