Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Meryl Blau, a Mindpower Coach based in Palmetto Bay, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help high performers, and business professionals increase their mental toughness and emotional resilience through an elite-level coaching program that helps people get rid of all of their mental and emotional barriers.

Tell us about yourself

I'm known best for being an overachiever, high-performer, and health and fitness fanatic. I started my career in the advertising industry, which looking back, I believe was my first training ground for building my mental toughness. The vast experiences over the life of my career have taught me that it is a necessity to set the bar high for myself and for anyone I work with because, simply stated... a bar set too low is one achieved too easily, and, well, easy doesn't help us grow, change or get what we really want in life.

I come from the creative industry, am a Professor of Practice at the University of Miami, and have mentored well over a thousand young adults in and out of the classroom to date. I currently run a mentoring program for corporate women in real estate, am a nutrition coach, and public speaker. I truly believe this perfect storm of experiences has been the puzzle pieces that have led me to level up to become a Mindpower Coachâ„¢.

I don't believe in playing small, and I always need to find that authentic connection that feels right in my gut. That's how I knew Mindpower Coaching was the next evolution for me and my BEGS (big-effing goals). I currently train directly under Stephane and Shalee Schafeitel, best-selling authors of Master Your Mindpower and recently named "#1 mental toughness trainers in the world," This opportunity has given me a platform to become that true change agent, being able to help people in massive ways, and help them get the results they are looking for, and I am forever grateful.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm not really a "trophy" kind of person or one to brag about my own accomplishments. My biggest accomplishments are always noted in what my influence has been able to help others do. I've watched my alumni win some of the most notable awards in their industry, including receiving multiple Cannes Lions awards (the most prestigious award in the world for the creative industry), and watched others take home an Emmy. As a coach and in business, I know and am proud to share that my clients have reached levels of success that they never dreamed possible. True fulfillment for me comes from seeing the successes of those I can impact through my coaching in some way.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Discipline. Discipline. Discipline. You can't do things when they feel good. You must stay committed to the goal even when you don't feel like it because your success depends on YOU showing up and taking full responsibility for everything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. MASTER YOUR MINDPOWER. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Mindpower Coach, but truly, it is THE difference maker to your success. You need to build your mental toughness and emotional resilience so that you can bounce back from the hard moments and hard days with grace and ease so that you can get up and fight the good fight again tomorrow.
  2. Never make it about the money. The money will follow if you work to be extraordinary at whatever it is you're building.
  3. Beware of crabs. (We can talk more about the meaning of crabs another time) But essentially, crabs are people who will try to keep you down. If they are not saying things that support your goals, be very careful not to let them get in your head and hold you back due to their limiting beliefs, self-doubt, or jealousy. Build a forcefield around you by surrounding yourself with people who will help you, support you, and give you sound advice to help you get where you are trying to go.
