What's your business, and who are your customers?
On my LinkedIn page, I say we're problem solvers. In reality, that's what we are. For customers who may need a printed product or a promo product, we find the right solution. We make sure their files are ready to go, and then we guarantee the job will be done right. For Merge, it's all about personal service and quality results.
Tell us about yourself
I've been self-employed for over 30 years. First as a freelance copywriter and now as a small business owner. Every day, I look forward to helping my customers with their requests. Every job is a challenge and an opportunity to meet and exceed expectations.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
For me, every day is an opportunity to do a good job. It can be a tiny accomplishment, such as completing a rush job for a customer or making sure a large job is completed on time and on budget. I can't point to one single accomplishment. I take satisfaction every day by just doing what needs to be done and delivering the job directly to my customer.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I opened my first location with a healthy bank account, but I soon learned that I had to be very careful with my money because it could go pretty quickly. Just because you have the resources doesn't mean you should spend carelessly, especially on large purchases. Sleeping on it is still a good piece of advice for anyone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a niche and tailor your business to that niche.
- Exceptional personal service leads to more referrals.
- Ask your customers to post social media reviews. Those little blurbs can have a very positive impact on your business.
