Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eziah Syed, Co-Founder of Mend, located in New York, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are in a crisis regarding societal health, and many of our health numbers are going in the wrong direction. For example, it is forecasted that 50% of the US population will be pre-diabetic or diabetic by 2025. We are in a sick care system and spend very little on prevention and wellness. Mend™ is setting out to change that with evidence-based nutrition and a digital health platform that harnesses the power of nature to supercharge health and healing for everybody and provides coaching for sustainable behavioral change. Our nature-powered supplements are clinically-proven and recognized by the medical community to be effective in accelerating repair, recovery, and improving key risk factors that contribute to chronic conditions. Mend™ works with leading hospitals and universities on developing evidence-based clinical nutrition products to enhance patient outcomes, which is why we're such a hit with high-impact individuals in sports, the military, and anyone living an active life. We are committed to educating the world about the power of natural ingredients to complement medical treatment. We make it easy for people to use nature to power themselves back to health. And to stay healthy daily.
Tell us about yourself
I'm rabidly into health and wellness. I've seen too many family members go through health challenges, and I know we can do better. My mother, for example, is a cancer survivor. I saw what the illness and subsequent surgery, chemo, and lack of care did to her recovery. It's unacceptable, and we must do better. I'm deeply motivated to help improve human health and wellness and healthcare delivery so that we can reduce needless suffering.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It's always about the customers. I'm endlessly proud that we have won the trust of leading hospital systems, 30+ professional sports teams, and the US military. And of course, the everyday man and woman who writes to us and tells us how we helped to improve their health. There's nothing more gratifying than that.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It is all-consuming, so one must sacrifice a little bit of leisure and family time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be deeply passionate about your mission.
- Be prepared for numerous ups and downs and existential crises.
- Be unrelenting about your pursuit, don't let yourself give up.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Running a start-up is one of the most rewarding things you can do in the business realm. Seeing your idea come to life and become a real product or service valued by others it's incredibly gratifying. However, it will also be one of the hardest things you've ever done. Be prepared to grind and grind but also be prepared to be deeply satisfied.
