Experience Freedom in Your Business - Melissa Gamarra
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Gamarra, Owner of Melissa Gamarra Management, located in West Jordan, UT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a coach for moms looking to leave their 9-5 and become entrepreneurs using the skills they already have. My VA Starter Kit helps them step into the world of becoming a Virtual Assistant and land their first paying client in 30 days. I also provide Operations Management help for 7-figure businesses looking to scale.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business back in 2018 when I was expecting my first child and realized I could not afford daycare. I began searching for a way to make extra money and found the world of Virtual Assisting. After six months of being a VA, I replaced my income and quit my 9-5 job. After being a VA for a few years, I went through the Online Business Manager Certification and have been helping high-level entrepreneurs with their operations ever since.
But over the years, I have been asked by many individuals how I built my business and have also been asked for tips, tricks, and help on finding clients as a VA. So in 2021, I decided to offer that help to everyone, and my signature course, Virtual Assistant's Starter Kit, was born. Helping mothers become business owners and eventually scale their businesses is my purpose in life. I know how much becoming an entrepreneur helped me, and I want nothing more than to extend that to as many women as possible!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a course that allows moms to become Virtual Assistants and find paying clients quickly.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Balancing work life and home life. Having boundaries around my schedule has been challenging because I truly love what I do and can be a bit of a workaholic. But nothing is more important than taking time off, enjoying my family time, and letting work remain during working hours.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take action, even if it isn't perfect. I registered my business with the state before I was 100% sure I even wanted to be an entrepreneur. But starting before I was ready helped push me to keep going.
- Embrace being told "no." As a business owner you will be told "no" a lot, so get comfortable with it, don't take it personally, and keep working towards the "yes."
- Never discount yourself! Those who want a discount are not a fit for what you offer, and I promise they will be a nightmare to serve. Charge what you are worth and remain confident in that price.
