Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental and personal wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Bright, host of The Bright Side of Life Podcast, located in Saint Louis, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a trauma survivor and the host and creator of The Bright Side of Life Podcast. I share stories of other survivors to help people heal and find joy in their own lives.
Tell us about yourself
After losing my Mom at the age of 25, I would spend the next ten years not processing the trauma, losing my self-confidence along the way, and feeling alone in my struggles. This all came to a head in 2020 when the whole world was hurting; I decided to turn my pain into my purpose and start healing.
Simultaneously while starting therapy, I started thinking about my true purpose in life. I looked out into the world and saw other people hurting too, and I wanted to help.
Now I put the joy back into people's hearts through my podcast, The Bright Side of Life, where I talk to people that have successfully navigated their way back to joy and happiness despite their struggles, pain, and grief.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a podcaster was being voted as one of the Top 50 Moms in Podcasting in Podcast Magazine in May of 2021.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a podcaster is making sure you're creating content that people want to listen to and doing that on a consistent basis.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Three tips I'd give to anyone looking to start a podcast, is just start. Start before you are ready, or you will always find an excuse that you're not ready. Press the record button and get used to the mic being in your face. Start guesting on other podcasts asap to grow your audience.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I know that life can be painful sometimes, but it can also be beautiful. I have experienced both, but I have been blessed to have turned my pain into my purpose, and I think anyone that wants to do the same can!
