Energy Alchemist - Melanie Huestis
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melanie Huestis, Energy Alchemist based in London, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm an energy alchemist with a knack for seeing through the BS and finding radical ways to help you shift from where you are to where you want to be. I work with women who seem to have their shit together yet still feel like something authentic is missing from their lives (hint, it's magic).
Tell us about yourself
Although I have a few credentials, I'm most proud of my Ph.D. from the School of Hard Knocks. You name it, and I've likely dealt with it … really poorly at first. I hit rock bottom and discovered that if I wanted to change, how I was showing up had to change. I tried and failed about a hundred times and finally figured out a step-by-step plan to heal my trauma, connect to my spiritual side, and to create soul-level magic in my life. My biggest joy is sharing that with others on a similar path. I made mistakes, so you don't have to (but you still can if you want, I don't discriminate).
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Learning to put myself first and walking my talk, even if it meant disappointing clients, was a real challenge for me. But I found that the only way to show up from a place of true compassion and love was to give that to myself first. I now have crystal clear boundaries that allow me to both show up for clients and not be exhausted at the end of the day. Saying no to what wasn't working was the first step to creating the capacity to say hell yes to what would.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
When you create a business you love, you want to show up. It's a challenge to know when to turn off the phone, step away from the computer, and focus on life! Creating clear and consistent boundaries for myself around business hours, client expectations, and my own needs (and that of my family) has been both a challenge and a fantastic learning experience.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be honest about what you want and drop anything that feels like an obligation. Show up as yourself and allow that to be the beacon that calls in your ideal clients … otherwise, you'll quickly find that you're not serving who you're meant to be. Be willing to fail - again and again. Much like the falling apart I mentioned above, it's the uncomfy yet beautiful process by which we learn the best way to move forward in both our business and in life.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
No matter what you've been told or what you believe, I know that you are worthy of all you desire. You have what it takes to create a biz and life you love, and it starts with dropping the old stories and opening up to the possibility that you just may be the person you've been waiting for.
