Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Megan Yelaney, CEO of Megan Yelaney LLC, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an online business coach, podcaster, and speaker. I help women scale their businesses without sacrificing their marriage or what's most important to them with strategic business remodels, mindset work & a life-first business approach.

Tell us about yourself

I got started in business through a network marketing company after I accidentally sold so much of the product (without realizing I could get PAID to do so!). From a marketing degree, business was naturally in my bones, and after building my network marketing business to six figures, I felt the itch to start my own company. Two companies, over three million in sales later, and a loyal community, we are going strong with my #PrettyAwkward brand helping women scale their businesses without sacrifice both by being completely themselves and prioritizing what matters most.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say hitting my first seven figures in my business and then letting a lot of that income go to remodeling my business to better support my marriage growth. It was humbling, and I had to experience a pretty big ego death to realize what was most important to me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I'd say the fact that you call the shots & no one is going to tell you what to do or where to be when. It's up to you to show up every day and make decisions, not all of which will be best. It's important (and hard) to have an un-attachment to the outcome as everything in entrepreneurship is a test and a risk.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Play the long game: reaching financial success WILL take time, and even though I don't LOVE the word 'hustle,' you WILL have to work more for less money in the first year (and possibly more). Keep going; the compound effect WILL add up.
  2. Do something you love every day. If you are doing work that lights you up, it'll get you through those feast and famine years. Try to find something every single day in your business that you really really love doing and would even do for free.
  3. Hire slow, fire fast. This was the advice given to me by one of my mentors a few years ago, and I experienced NOT doing this firsthand. Take your time with hiring your first team member because you don't want to just find anyone but someone who will stick with you through your growth!
