What's your business, and who are your customers?
Zinke Hair Studio is an Aveda Lifestyle Salon located in Boulder, CO, and soon to be in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Our family business is owned by myself Megan, my mother, Jolene. We are a green circle salon doing our practices near 95% sustainable, which is huge for the beauty industry were 800-900 lbs. of waste is produced every single minute. We are passionate about making others feel beautiful inside and out while taking care of the planet in the process. Anyone and everyone are welcome to our salon, as we do all types of hair and love meeting all types of people.
Tell us about yourself
Zinke Hair Studio opened in 2011. My Aveda journey, however, began in 2006 at The Aveda Institute of Denver, where I fell in love with hair color and the Aveda brand. The beauty industry is constantly changing, and the enormous amount of continuous education motivates us to stay on trend and always be learning and growing. In addition, having the ability to offer a service to people that can change the way they feel about themselves is so rewarding.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being nominated as a Top 200 Salon in the country by Salon Today Magazine 8 years in a row has been a huge accomplishment and honor.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Recruiting and Hiring! Sometimes building the right team can be the hardest part of owning a business. The team is everything, and it takes a lot of work to make sure we are hiring the right people that fit our culture and salon family.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself; if you believe you can, you can.
- Take time for yourself; no one can live successfully with an empty cup.
- Never stop learning.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My favorite quote has always been, "Leap and a net will appear." There are many times as a business owner when you don't know if you are making the right decision or not, and I have found that just taking the leap and trusting your gut always ends up working out somehow.
