Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Talwinder "Terry" Sidhu, Founder of Meditate Worldwide, located in Nelson, BC, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

In short, I teach meditation. I'm currently working on developing Meditate Worldwide into a full-fledged meditation school. I'm currently focused on developing lessons and programs for neurodivergent individuals and creating techniques for clients to tackle complex mental health issues such as CPTSD and DPDR. I'm soon developing teacher training programs to get improved meditation lessons that go beyond mindfulness into more Yoga studios, retreat centers, and academic establishments.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career as a life coach; for almost 9+ years, I worked with clients across the globe, supporting their goals and helping them find success in life. After a while, it felt like I was just assisting people in plugging back into a system that didn't serve them. My clients started asking me about mental health management and meditation, so I started sharing the same techniques I used throughout my life, having begun meditating at around nine years old. What motivates me is when clients realize that they are the creators of their own lives and that life happens in the present, the past and future do not exist here, for they are places within the mind.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having two bestselling books under my name, Meditate: Breathe into meditation and awaken your potential + The Meditation Kit: A Beginners guide to items for a safe space.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest has been developing the brand, it's an ongoing process because of the vast number of services I offer, so I'm currently working on creating something that resonates with me and my teachings.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start & Don't give up - The only failure in business is failing to communicate, keep trying, and soon you will find your voice and the market who will listen.
  2. Launch on social media - You don't need everything set up right away; just start sharing on social media and let the likes, follows, and shares guide the way to success.
  3. Scale at pace - From my clients, I've learned a lot about being successful and unhappy, so I consciously decided I would grow and move at a rate that allows me to enjoy my life and make the most out of every day. Success means nothing without fulfillment; if you're miserable most of the time, scale back and get part-time work to ease the financial burden if you have to. Balance is key, and set realistic financial goals - ask yourself, what resources do you need to create the next phase of your life?
