Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Logan Quinn, Founder of Medicine of Man, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Medicine of Man is a holistic rehabilitation clinic that focuses on healing chronic physical and mental dysfunctions by working with patients to regain the repressed emotional material causing the illness or imbalance to arise. From massage and psychotherapy to breathwork and physical rehabilitation, we use the right tool at the right time.

Tell us about yourself

Originally I worked as a performer and coach in the circus (and high-level athletics) until my growing frustration with the glaring lack of depth from physiotherapist, psychologists, and Healthcare professionals caused me to branch out in search of answers. What I love most is the vast array of treatments we use at Medicine of Man, which keeps things playful and interesting for both my clients and me. It's this dynamic that allows us to form a bigger picture of the imbalances that create the symptoms and diagnosis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Two major accomplishments come to mind and are vastly different. Recently I've been in the position to mentor other practitioners and have been invited to teach in the US. I'll be running my first international course, Massaging the Psyche: Level 1, in May 2023!

The other goes back to University, where I had the chance to learn from one of my dream mentors, Carrie Thiel, Motion Capture and stunt woman on the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Those years were magical and led to a job at Capilano University teaching my own movement classes.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Honestly, the most difficult thing for a wild man like myself is owning and operating a business in just one field. I have so many interests, from desiring to study wildlife in the African Savannah to returning to the stage, I can find it a challenge to feed my soul and my business. It's important for business owners to remember that where lies our greatest growth and aliveness is also where we will be of greatest service to our clients. From learning new tools and perspectives to not becoming a grumpy 9-5'er, I trust the call of my heart above all else, and I teach our clients to follow our lead.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It doesn't matter if you're starting a side hustle or a full-blown business:

  1. You don't need to borrow or raise money. Start with what you have and offer to those in your circle.
  2. Make sure you're well educated but don't think you have to go to University for 4+ years to get that knowledge (you likely won't).
  3. If it's a game for you, setbacks are no big deal. Setbacks should feel like puzzles to be solved, not walls to be broken down.
