Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in music education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Matthew Gawronski, Teacher, Composer, and Digital Resource Creator, located in Oceanside, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
MatthewGawronski.com is an e-commerce business that distributes digital resources for music teachers. These diverse resources include vocal warmup videos, sight-singing exercises, music teacher sub plans, as well as an interactive music education curriculum - www.ThreeMinuteTheoryMusic.com.
Tell us about yourself
As a full-time music teacher, every day, I was bombarded with ideas to improve my students' music literacy. I also noticed that there was a lack of creativity and ingenuity in the music education space. Since I firmly believe EVERYONE was created TO create, I created my first digital resource for music teachers, and I haven't looked back since. Everything my hands find to do, I want to do it for the Glory of God, and if that means having student musicians and teachers wonder at the beauty of creation in music, I'm all in.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think my greatest creation for music teachers has been Three Minute Theory (https://www.threeminutetheorymusic.com/). Three Minute Theory is an interactive video music education curriculum that is now used by hundreds of teachers and thousands of music students around the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Probably the most challenging part over the years has been staying focused. It's very easy to run after the next business idea without perfecting the music teacher solutions that I already offer and so much love and appreciation.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start building an email list.
- Invest (time and often money) in learning more about business/your industry.
- Stay focused, but always stay tuned to new approaches to refining your solutions.
