Sell More With Storytelling - Mary DeAcetis Media

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary DeAcetis, an entrepreneur and social media coach based in Naples, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a social media agency and coaching program where I get to teach storytelling to help entrepreneurs and coaches sell more on social media!

Tell us about yourself

I started in social media at 19 (crazy, I know). A friend of my mom's was looking for someone to run their social media and blog. I told him, "I have no idea how to do it, but I'll learn," and he replied, "you're hired!" I used the University of Google to learn how to market a business online, and things began to take off. Two years in, still a college student, the CEO came back to me and encouraged me to start my own business. I knew that I had this dream of helping other people's voices be heard, and I believe social media is the best way to do that today. Using this God-given talent to teach other people how to change their life through social media is what motivates me today!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to see clients having the confidence to share their stories online. There is massive healing that happens when you're bold enough to say yes to that. And then there is even more freedom when clients see how their stories bring breakthroughs for other people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Focusing on the thing that will move the needle the most. I believe that, especially in the online world of business, we get good at doing the boring things. It can get really repetitive sharing your offer, posting daily, and connecting with new people. There is so much value in being great at the things that move you closer to your goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do one more thing than you think you have the energy for.
  2. Meet as many people as possible.
  3. Focus more on what you can give to others vs. what you can get.
