What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a naturopath and a holistic mental health practitioner, and I help people who are struggling with their emotions and relationships to heal old wounds and feel joy again. There's not a single person I know who isn't going through hard times right now. It saddens me - the world is more disconnected and stressed out than ever. My clients are people who align with getting to the root causes of their pain rather than using quick fixes or bandaids. I'm 100% virtual, so I'm able to help people all over the world!

Tell us about yourself

I have always been drawn to the healing arts! I love people, feel their pain, and know-how to help them heal. Training to do this professionally was an amazing side benefit of first being a patient! I was in business as a traditional Naturopath but hadn't yet found my 'niche.' I knew I wanted to help people heal from their past trauma - because that was what I myself had successfully done in a pretty unconventional and innovative way. After more training and re-launching my business, I now get to witness miracles every day - and I can't think of what could motivate a person more!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Overcoming limiting beliefs and discovering the truth that YES, I can operate a business that is completely in alignment with the way I am designed and with the way my energy flows naturally. I learned, through so much trial and doubt, that it's perfect to be raw and authentic. Each of us contains an untapped, unique genius, and the world needs what I have inside of me. None of us has to be a carbon copy of anyone else! It's only by operating from this mindset that I'm able to help others find joy and healing inside of them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning to delegate and rely on others! The talents and skills that I bring to my business are the actual craft of what I do to help people. My talents and skills are not technical or marketing skills, so I've had to let go of that and find the right people who believe in me to handle those tasks for me. In the beginning, I spent a lot of energy trying to learn entirely new skill sets. In the end, because I didn't love that type of work, I had to let it go and allow others an opportunity to shine in those areas.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love what you do! If you never earned another dollar for this work, would you still want to do it? If the answer is "yes," you're in the right line of work.
  2. Delegate. Know what your strengths are and what they aren't.
  3. Keep going! The world needs your genius. The desire in you to be an entrepreneur and give your unique idea to the world means something and is no accident. Keep going.

Bonus tip: Just start. Things will never be just the way you want them. Allow your business to be fluid - there will be things you'll want to change as you expand, learn, and grow. Don't let all those small unknowns stop you from starting! People will remember how you make them feel when you interact with them - not the perfect logo or website - so let your business be imperfect and just start doing the thing.
