Anneal Business Coaching - Martin Holland
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Martin Holland, Owner of Anneal Business Coaching, located in Norman, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a business coach located in Norman, Oklahoma, who works with clients throughout the US and in Canada. The over 400 small businesses I have coached have taught me that, although all businesses are unique, they are also the same. The details differ, but there are principles common to successful businesses and omissions common to struggling businesses. Every principle of success is available to every business through awareness and action.
I know this to be true because my clients currently range in size from $200,000 to $200 million in annual sales and from the solopreneur to employers with over 400 employees. My clients represent almost every business type imaginable, from psychiatrists, attorneys, and biotech engineers to a contractor, manufacturers, homebuilders, publishers, software developers, and on and on.
My target audience is the business owner who sees business as an adventure but who also wants less stress, more free time, and more money through a highly profitable business that can work without the owner.
Tell us about yourself
Over the past 48 years, I (and my partners) started eight small businesses across a wide range of industries. Two of them failed, we sold four of them, and I still work closely with two. After selling a business 12 years ago, I decided to help others avoid the many mistakes I have made - and coaching is the way I chose to do that.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Without a doubt, it was accumulating the knowledge and experience that enabled me to help small business owners. I have the experience and knowledge to help, but more importantly, I have empathy. Very seldom do my clients confront an issue I haven't experienced personally. When I am able to help a client thrive, it is pure joy for me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The Sword of Damocles! The burden of responsibility is the trait that most distinguishes a business owner from, for example, a talented employee.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a clear vision of what you want and where you're headed. Only a vanishingly small percentage of new clients can articulate what they want. Without a clear vision, we don't know which specific actions will take us there.
- Be aware of the four disciplines of every business. (Guiding the business, Getting the business, Doing the business, and Administering the business) No business can thrive unless it is at least good at all four (Most businesses are good at only one)
- Become aware of and work on your mindset. EVERY business owner I have ever met has self-limiting beliefs that hold him or her back.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I work with clients by working on their mindset and by cycling through the four areas of business. There is always an issue that, when corrected, will have more impact on the business than any other. We work to correct that issue and then move on to the next. This process never ends in a cycle of constant improvement. Anyone who wants to talk to me for free can do so by scheduling a time on my annealbc.com website.
