Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marly Q. Casanova, CEO of Marly Q, LLC, located in Miramar, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business exists to inspire, educate and enrich lives with the currency of kindness, connection, and community. Marly Q LLC delivers impactful speaking and professional development training workshops and retreats for corporations, municipalities, nonprofits, and academic institutions worldwide.

Tell us about yourself

Creating a world where people are more kind to themselves, each other, and our planet is my vision and purpose that has motivated me each day to do what I have done for well over two decades. Although I started my journey as an entrepreneur at age 25, I answered my calling to serve in 4th grade. I got to deliver a TEDx talk sharing this story about how my teacher changed my life with four simple words she said to me, which I believed sparked my journey. She said, "Kindness is your Superpower," and if more people believed this and lived this, I believe it would be enough to change the world. That simple belief motivates me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd say my biggest business accomplishment has to be the fact I've been a "solo entrepreneur" since 2008 and have kept myself in the game overcoming countless losses, challenges, and difficult financial situations, without ever quitting on myself or my dream.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come along with being a business owner, in my opinion, is being your own boss, defining success on your own terms and developing the daily focus and discipline required to take consistent action toward your goals, and remembering to take care of yourself along the way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your purpose for being in business and define what success looks like for you.
  2. Get confident communicating your story and the value you bring or the problems you solve.
  3. Get going! Ask yourself, what is one small step you can take today to get going (or keep going)?
