Intercultural Talent Consultant - Marisa Ortiz

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marisa Ortiz of Intercultural Talent Consultant, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer intercultural training workshops and coaching based on StrengthsFinder talent development tool. My customers are visionary leaders, mission-driven organizations, and diverse teams who appreciate the power of intercultural knowledge.

Tell us about yourself

Becoming a mother got me started on my business, and I left corporate America after forging a successful career in Human Resources and International NGO work. I am motivated by my clients who are serving people and the planet. I see myself as the one who supports and helps heal those who are in the trenches of human rights and social and environmental justice.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being a hands-on, engaged mother and business owner at the same time. Even before the 2020, we survived a total loss of our house to a fire, a 3-year insurance claim, built a sustainable house and thrived despite the pandemic. I am very proud I am raising my global citizens with all my heart and running my business at the same time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the right partners to work with. In 7 years, I have learned that values are the most important aspect of finding partners, skills can be taught even if it takes time. I am now very cautious with whom I partner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start with that you have and accept who you are today. Don't postpone it anymore. Life is now, and life is short. It is better to age doing what you love and loving who you are than age going through the motions and waiting for something outside of you to change.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes, we need many more artists, empaths, and sensitive people to become entrepreneurs. We need empaths in positions of leadership. We need to balance the current social paradigm. If you are a sensitive person with an entrepreneurial dream, go for it now! There are tons of other artists/empaths who will support your business. You don't need to sell your soul anymore.
