What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a freelance fine artist and illustrator. People who are involved in music love my paintings of sound and music. I have also illustrated three children’s books, two of which I have also written. My illustrations are inclusive and representative of diversity and disability!
Tell us about yourself
I have always felt compelled to express myself through drawing and painting and imagery in general. However, given my physical disability, I was encouraged to take a more conventional route to employment. What keeps me going is the joy l get When creating and the joy People get from my work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Perseverance in my passion. Continuing on in the face of many challenges. I now have a body of work and a consistent path toward realizing my goal of using my art to uplift people.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time, energy, resources, and dedication. Knowing your strengths and Honouring your limitations.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you have a backup plan for funding.
- Work hard and know who you are working with and what they can and cannot do.
- Integrity and trust are everything.
