Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maria Liberati, President of Art of Living Prima Media Inc, located in Hatfield, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Art of Living Prima Media Inc is a multi-media content company providing content in the forms of published books, ebooks, streaming content, TV Shows, and podcasts. We produce podcasts, streaming, and video content in the genres of food, home, garden, recipes, cooking, DIY, and books for 'tweens.' We are also entering the translation market and have just published an award-winning book in Italy; originally published in Italian, we published it in English.
Tell us about yourself
I am a serial entrepreneur and have had many careers in my life that are all somehow related. I was a successful model in Europe and began studying the culinary arts while there and created my award-winning book series, The Basic Art of Italian Cooking. After the successful book, I decided to take back my rights and form a publishing company. From there, the company grew into a multi-media content that produces and also licenses content and trademarks for our content. I am motivated because I am grateful to do something I love and make a living at it. I thank God every day for giving me that ability, and do not take it for granted!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That I have been able to successfully thrive in a variety of entrepreneurial ventures and also successfully mentor others. And share what I have learned along the way.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Having to deal with the business side of your business when you are in a creative field. What I mean is that I am a creative person, and I enjoy the creative process of writing and producing content in all forms, but a business owner also has to take care of the other facets of being a business owner- accounting, taxes, marketing, HR, licenses and more! So I do a lot of the business side also, but I would love to be able to just concentrate on the creative side. But I know as an entrepreneur, you have to be well-versed in many things. Whether you take care of those things yourself or someone else does it for you- if it is your business, you need to understand what is being done. Your business is your baby, and no one will care about it as you do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If you want to run a business, do something that really motivates you. There will be many highs and low lows, and you need to really be motivated to keep going.
- Have confidence in your beliefs and talent. If you don't, no one else will!
- Don't think you can be a 'one man band'; seek partners, collaborators, assistance, and anyone who can be a positive contributor to your business. You can't do it all alone!
