What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am Mansion Street Candle Company! My target audiences are those wanting rich scented, hand-poured candles - all at a reasonable price.

Tell us about yourself

I am a creative, first and foremost. I love to take a task and put my own spin on it. I enjoy a challenge, so when I see a product I like and think I could make it better, I go at it head-on. Hats have always been an interest to me as well, so I also have a hat shop! Hand-made candles & hats are my primary focus at the moment.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I took a small storefront in my little town that hadn't been used for a while, gutted it, and opened my shop! I'm also self-taught in everything I do, so I take pride in acquiring those skills and knowledge.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Patience. I am a fast-paced individual, so with a new business, it can be hard to let things take form and shape. Everyone wants to sell out of their products and blow up overnight, but progress takes time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Plan it out - create a business model that is sustainable and progressive.
2. Visualize it - I'm a very visual person, so I need to see something before doing anything else. Whether that's a Pinterest board or a sketch, get it in front of you and let your imagination go nuts.
3. Be different - You have to stand out! When everyone goes right, you go left. Take something you personally like, and make it unique.
