Empowering Girls to Be Their Best Selves - Manley Coaching
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Becky Manley, Founder of Manley Coaching, located in Framingham, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a therapeutic life coach, workshop leader, and parent educator. I work with girls ages 11-25, helping them to explore their strengths, goals, values, and challenges.
Tell us about yourself
I have a B.A. from Saint Michaels College in secondary education and English and an M.S. from Boston University's Wheelock College in family studies with an emphasis on early childhood development and counseling. I am a trained coach, a member of the International Coach Federation, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and a Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am also the founder of the Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association (MEDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, training, and treatment of eating disorders. I have been working with girls for over 30 years. I started my coaching business because of my passion for helping girls reach their goals. I love working with teens and young women. My specialties include helping my clients navigate challenging family and social issues, body image, stress, and anxiety. I also provide tools and coping strategies for managing intense emotions. I am motivated by the individuals and families I work with and the growth I witness in them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments is being named one of the top 100 graduates from the Wheelock School of Education at Boston University.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes from being a sole owner is keeping up with demand. I continually have a waiting list and am always looking to grow my referral network and find therapists and coaches who work with teens and tweens.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The three tips I would give to anyone who is looking to start a business would be:
- Network. Go to conferences, workshops and meet like-minded people for coffee.
- Collaborate. Create a training with another professional to present at a conference or through your local community education center. Co-author an article or do an Instagram or Facebook live with someone WHO compliments your business.
- Create a social media account that highlights your product. Post 3-4 times a week. Tag local businesses or professionals you are trying to work with.
